Faithfulness in Small Things: A Simple Way to Grow Your Walk with God
There’s a part of the Christian life that often gets overlooked.
It’s not the big moments.
Not the public wins.
Not the things people notice or celebrate.
It’s the quiet, everyday choices.
The unseen obedience.
The small acts of love.
The moments when no one is watching.
This is where faithfulness in small things really begins.
And if we’re honest, this is also where many of us struggle.
Because it’s easy to stay motivated when someone sees what you’re doing.
It’s easy to serve when it’s appreciated.
It’s easy to keep going when there’s feedback or encouragement.
But what about when there’s nothing?
No recognition.
No results (yet).
No one saying “thank you.”
That’s where this week of Reflecting the Redeemer meets you.

Faithfulness in Small Things Starts in the Hidden Places
Jesus speaks directly to this in Matthew:
“Your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.”
Matthew 6:4 NIV
That verse changes everything.
Because it reminds us that even when no one else sees…
God does.
Every act of kindness.
Every quiet prayer.
Every moment you choose patience instead of reacting.
None of it is wasted.
Faithfulness in small things is often developed in hidden places.
It’s what you do when no one is watching.
It’s choosing to live for God’s approval instead of people’s.
And that shift changes everything.
Why the Small Things Matter More Than You Think
Here’s something we don’t always realize:
Who you are in private shapes who you become in public.
The hidden places are where your character is formed.
It’s where:
- your patience is tested
- your humility is developed
- your motives are revealed
And this is where God does some of His deepest work.
We tend to look for big moments to grow our faith.
But God often works through the small, ordinary ones.
So let me ask you:
What small thing is in front of you right now that you’ve been overlooking?
Because that may be the very place God is working.
When You Feel Overlooked or Unseen
Let’s be honest for a minute.
There are times when doing the right thing feels… unnoticed.
You show up.
You serve.
You try to do what’s right.
And it feels like no one sees it.
Have you felt that?
That quiet thought that says,
“Does this even matter?”
Hebrews answers that clearly:
“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
Hebrews 6:10 NIV
Not forget.
That means your effort matters.
Your obedience matters.
Your heart matters.
Even when it feels invisible… it isn’t.
God sees what is done in secret.
And He never overlooks a faithful heart.
Serving God in Secret Changes Your Heart
Mark reminds us:
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Mark 10:45 NIV
Jesus didn’t wait for recognition.
He didn’t serve based on convenience.
He served because of love.
And this is where something begins to shift in you.
When you embrace faithfulness in small things, your motivation changes.
You stop asking:
👉 “Who sees what I’m doing?”
And start asking:
👉 “Am I reflecting Christ right now?”
That shift changes your heart.
You begin to serve with joy instead of obligation.
And that’s where real transformation happens.
Living Out Faithfulness in Small Things
This is where it becomes real.
Because faithfulness in small things isn’t something abstract.
It shows up in your everyday life.
In your home.
In your conversations.
In your reactions.
It looks like:
- choosing patience when you’re tired
- showing kindness when it’s not returned
- helping without being asked
- staying consistent when no one is checking
These moments may feel small.
But they are shaping you more than you realize.
So ask yourself:
Where is God inviting me to be faithful today?
Not someday.
Not in a different season.
Today.
Practical Ways to Apply This This Week
Let’s keep this simple and doable.
Do One Thing No One Will See
Choose one act of kindness each day that stays between you and God.
Stay Faithful in What’s Already in Front of You
Don’t wait for something bigger. Be present where you are.
Shift Your Focus
When you feel overlooked, remind yourself:
God sees what is done in secret.
Pause Before You React
Ask yourself:
“What would it look like to respond like Jesus here?”
A Gentle Heart Check
Take a moment and ask yourself:
- Am I looking for recognition more than obedience?
- Where have I been feeling unseen?
- What small step of faithfulness is God asking me to take today?
These aren’t heavy questions.
They’re invitations.
Because God isn’t asking for perfection.
He’s inviting you into growth.

Walking This Out in Everyday Life
Faithfulness in small things isn’t flashy.
It won’t always feel exciting.
It won’t always be noticed.
But it is deeply powerful.
Because it:
- strengthens your character
- deepens your relationship with God
- shapes your heart to reflect Christ
As you continue this Reflecting the Redeemer journey, remember:
You are not unseen.
You are not forgotten.
And what you’re doing matters more than you think.
Keep showing up.
Keep choosing love.
Keep being faithful.
God sees it all.
A Simple Prayer for Faithfulness in the Small Things
Lord,
Thank You for seeing what no one else sees.
Help me to stay faithful in the small things, even when it feels unnoticed.
Teach me to serve with a humble heart, not for recognition, but out of love.
Remind me that nothing I do for You is ever wasted.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
Have a wonderful week – I’ll see you back here on the blog this Sunday as we start week 3 of our challenge: Sacrificial Love & Christlike Character
Grace and peace,
Alicia
